best local free range eggs, go there especially to get these. Lamb is really good too and really good price and love the atmosphere and once you go there regularly the owner will have a chat with you. will recommend!

Great shop! Lovely owners. Great range of spices. Much better than boring Sainsbury’s down the road! :)

I have always referred to Al-Amin as an Al-Addin’s Cave [sic]. This is because if you pop in for one item that you need for your kitchen cupboard, you always seem to come out with several more, because of the excellent range of groceries! It’s such a great place to browse around and discover new ingredients and products that you might not have considered trying before. You never feel rushed or harassed like you would do in many supermarkets. Abdul, the owner, is usually around, and it’s a delight to have a store with a traditional grocer on the shop floor, greeting customers. If you have any questions about preparation or cooking of any ingredients, Abdul is keen to help. He is very knowledgeable about the products he sells. And it’s always apparent that his staff are a happy team. We regularly purchase a lunch time light-bite from Al-Amin, and my personal favourite is their tarka dhal. In fact, I am reluctant to eat this dish if purchased from anywhere else, because Al-Amin’s is the most flavoursome I’ve ever tasted. To conclude, Al-Amin reminds me of a traditional grocer’s shop I knew in my childhood, only with a wider range of ethically sourced products, and a contemporary approach to what a delicatessen should be.

I have shopped at Al-Amin for many years. I am distressed to see a small number of negative views of this shop and its staff. These don’t accord with my experience. I have always found the proprietor, Abdul, and all the other staff, friendly, helpful and genuinely interested in serving their customers. The meat in the butchery department is of high quality and offers a great range – goat, lamb, mutton, beef, chicken – and do try their homemade merguez! No wonder the whole Mill Road community – not only the muslim community – are to be found at the counter. The range of delicious food from their kitchen and café are an asset to the area, as is the rice-and-spice den. (And such a wide range of pasta, too!) Do pop in and investigate if you’re not already a regular customer. For many years they provided Post Office services to the local community, at little to no profit, as part of the business’s wider commitment to the local community. It was with great reluctance that they had to sever relations with the Post Office – an organisation which is no longer imbued with a public service ethos as heretofore. Currently (April 2018) PO facia boards and other materials adorn the outside of the shop, despite it no longer offering these services. This is because Post Office rules prohibit anyone other than their appointed people removing them.

Range of variety but very unreliable in term of billing. Overcharge and Even try to dodge on mentioned prices. Many products with no price tagging and try to overcharge on those with ease. Always ask for receipt and be vigilant to counter check.
