This was a truly shocking experience. Terrible and rude service, noisy builders banging on the window first thing in the morning, rotten milk. We stayed here for 1 night last weekend as a group of 4 and hired two twin rooms. Mine was on the 2nd floor. At 8 AM I was woken up by workmen right outside our room! They were sanding the bathroom window. They were not holding back on the noise with talking to each other, loudly on their mobile phones and banging on the walls and windows of our room. The bathroom window had the toilet right next to it. This window was not frosted and had a totally see through curtain. My roommate was actually on the toilet when the workmen turned up and he felt very compromised and did not know what to do for a while as whilst sat on the toilet the workmen had not realised he was there but they would have had he tried to get up. I had to go and use the communal toilets because I could not risk using the toilet. We basically could not use the bathroom that morning apart from for brushing our teeth. I went to make tea in the room and on opening the tiny packets of UHT milk found one to contain solid mould! All the milk was out of date by more than a month and we had already consumed some without realising! Then we went down for breakfast. The lady on duty showed us to a very small table. The room was empty and there were lots of other free tables. Right next to the table she wanted us to sit at was a slightly bigger table so we asked if we could sit there. She very curtly said - no. Being taken by surprise we just sat down at the small table. After a few minutes though we realised that there is no way 4 people would be able to fit their plates on this table so we asked again if we could move (being polite - there was still nobody else in this room that had like 15 tables). The lady again very rudely said we could if we wanted to but we would have to move our own stuff and then stormed away. When she came to get the breakfast order, 2 of our group being vegan, asked her if there was any egg in the vegetarian sausages. Her reply was "I don't know" and then just stood there. I could have really lost my cool at this point but not wanting to spoil the mood of our day I asked her if she could go and check then please. She said she would and came back a few minutes later to say the chef also does not know. Apparently the suppliers of the sausages did not put an ingredients list on the packaging - her words! Forget for someone working in hospitality, for someone just doing anything her attitude was shocking and we had said nothing back to her or been rude at all. As we were checking out I felt it was only right that I complain to the manager. I told him what I was upset about. He clearly was not listening because his responses were of the like - we were not given a bigger table because of the building work (?!?), and about the milk he said it does get quite warm in the rooms. I did not even mention the bill but after I finished talking he made these ridiculous excuses and not a word of an apology and then he said to me that I will have to pay the bill in full and then go on the trip advisor website to put my complaints! It seemed he was used to complaints and the piece of scrap paper he pretended to write mine on probably ended up in the trash soon after. I had even called a few days earlier to mention about some of us being vegan and if they could arrange for a vegan breakfast for us and had been told they do not do this and we would have to cope with what was given. I was also told at that time that there is some building work going on at the hotel but that it would not affect us in any way. That telephone call did concern me with the guys general tone of voice but I was still not prepared for what we experienced at this place.

Nice place, too light in the rooms at night. Also the heating goes off. If you like getting a bath the water doesn't get that hot plus it's an iron bath and takes even more heat out of the water to heat the bath. The staff are quite nice, food was good IMHO as a vegetarian. Car park is a nightmare if you go out at night and return to find you have to park right at the back.

Large bar and dining area in comfortable surroundings. It's a JW Lees pub. It's a good place to eat the food is well cooked and generous portions are served. You have to pay for parking but the cost is refunded at the bar.

Got a table and before I even sat down they asked us what we want to drink. I ordered a starter and while I was eating it they asked if we were ready for the main cos they've brought it out! When I did finish my starter my main came out straight away(cos it was ready and standing around), usually in restaurants you get 15/20 minutes rest after your starter. We felt we were rushed. I'm not keen on the way they run the place.
