  Service was slow, no heating on and very cold so asked for heating to be put on. Said they couldn't put it on because downstairs would be too hot, so had to sit with our coats on. (Should have realised that everyone in there was wearing their coats when we arrived) Food served an hour after ordering but food was lukewarm). Waited a while to order the kids deserts and had to go to find someone to do this) Finally paid the bill and left, only to find that no one else was in the place so can't understand why things took so long. Will not be visiting this restaurant again. Not impressed.

  Small and friendly with good food and drink. Mussels are really good!

  The meal started well with a friendly waiter who greeted and served us throughout the evening. However there were a fair amount of items on the menu that weren't available and when our food finally arrived it was cold. As we came to the end of the meal we could hear the manager being rude about her staff and the overall atmosphere of the restuarant was subdued.

  Excellent three course meal from their Autumn menu which we couldn't fault. A super meal with a beautifully tender steak. Delicious!

  Shocking visit to Cafe Rouge York - Sunday 3rd December 17. Filthy restaurant with debris, cutlery an food on the floor, table not properly wiped and surfaces far from tidy. Sat down close to full, open bin. This was close to 7:15pm so fairly early in the evening. We were brought dirty glasses for our water (not just water marked) - then replacements that were just as bad. Our waiter (male) was rude, asking use to pass glasses along the small table ourselves. Our children received dirty, crumpled kids menus. The chips were not cooked properly and were not the normal skinny fries. My fried egg in my burger was hard and over cooked. The manager (female, blond hair) was then extremely rude, confronting the female members of our group, claiming that they had been overheard saying that the restaurant was grubby. Absolutely appalling service. It is no wonder that the reviews sit low. Such a shame.
