Special occasion so we had afternoon tea had i assume the Manager behind us working which we had chatted to . Wife had an eclair cut in half and mentioned it was fishy i assumed a different taste however the base which was dry tasted of raw fish! Mentioned it to staff who did not want to try the other half ,cannot say i blame them but it was taken to chef who said we could have another, but we still had another uneaten one on the dish so declined and left the other one on the plate. Sent email to manager but no reply , don't believe the hype it really was no better than any other Cafe

On my first visit I tried the scones and loved them. So, I came back. This time, I continued to like the scones, and I tried the famous Chelsea buns. Unfortunately, not my kind of pastry, so I'll stick with the scones next time. Staff was still nice.

You'd probably expect good coffee in a coffee place. But here comes a disappointment. Nice interior and an old sign are deceptive: the drink is below average and is comparable to the vending machine standards. Cakes are too sweet – but do they hide the watery taste of the black coffee? No.

My rating is for the branch at Bridge Street. The staff at the counter took my order but missed a coffee when charging my card (we talked about the specific kind of coffee I wanted so he was fully aware of my order). After paying, I was not provided with a receipt with the order details on it, but only the total amount. So nobody realised his mistake. When the food was served I asked for the coffee, the waiter who served us said "You did not order a coffee. It's alright, I can make you a coffee if you want. But you did not pay for it!" He said this for a few times without trying to check with his colleague at the counter, and he left before clarifying the situation with me. Reluctant to take this insult (that I was lying for free drink), I went to the counter for an explanation. The staff member who took my order then admitted that it was his fault forgetting to note and charge my coffee. I then paid for the coffee, but throughout the whole time I did not receive any apology from the waiter who claimed that I was lying for free drink. I had been to Fitzbillies (both branches) several times and always liked the food. I understand that it was a busy time for the staff, but learning to respect customers, everyone of them, is the basic for the business. Extremely disappointing!

This place is famous for its Chelsea buns. We tried the same it was a good preparation but it’s too heavy and sweet. I am not a person who enjoys so much of sugar in a sweet. One can just give a try on buns if passing by or else it can be skipped. Would suggest one bun for two. It’s a perfect pairing with black coffee.
