::A beautiful old pub in central York, the Golden Lion is a real must for the real ale seeker. I walked in on a wet Wednesday afternoon complaining I could find no dark ales at the Old Starre, to be told enthusiastically that there is always Theakston's Old Peculier (OP) at the Golden Lion, and there it was on pump at the bar. I sat in this beautiful old hostelry and consumed two of the most delicious smooth, dark full tasting pints of OP I have drunk in a very long time. A truly superb place. Other fine ales are also served, so too food. An absolute 5 star recommendation. Don't miss it.
