  We stayed at this hotel hoping for a lovely relaxing stay however it was a real disappointment. Initially we could not gain access to our accommodation because of an electrical fault however the receptionist was very helpful and did resolve this for us as quick as possible. There was and still is a refurbishment going on and the bar, reception desk and restaurant were all squashed into one room. There was rubble, builders and a skip full of rubbish upon entering the hotel drive way, very visible but at least it was fenced off. The food was covered in oil and tasteless, additionally the portions were very small at dinner, you would need two courses to feel you had eaten. Furthermore, on our second night we had to wait 25 minutes for our dinner to arrive and a further 40 minutes for our desert, this was not much better on our first night, although the waitresses were pleasant enough. At breakfast the waiter did not acknowledge us and we were offered no tea or coffee, with no access to any. Our room was smart looking with a good t.v., however it was dusty and the bed was very soft and sank in the middle. We did not sleep well, felt unwell during our stay and left two days early. I would like to hope things would be better once the refurbishment is complete however we will not be returning and would not be willing to take the risk. Overall I would say our stay was more of a two star rating rather than a four star and wonder if some of the great reviews written here were of friends and relatives of the hotel staff???

  Great staff very clean and comfortable rooms. The bathroom is big hot water available all day long. The food is great at the restaurant. Breakfast is superior eggs royal is a must try. Loved the complimentary fizzy water along with coffee and tea.

  I was a wedding guest at Hawkwell House rather than an overnight guest and so I can only comment on the venue from that perspective, but it was a lovely venue and the staff and service I was party to were all very good as was the catering. I know the bar accommodated special requests and I felt the prices for drinks were all very much in line with what I'd have expected from a similar venue. I would be very comfortable recommending the venue to others.

  Staff are lovely. Place is very clean and we'll kept despite the renovation happening at the same time. Food was delicious we both had steak and they cooked it perfectly for us. A genuinely lovely stay in a superior room. There could be improvements in the service. Staff forgetting simple things. But a good spot to stay the 3 bus does a good service into Oxford from Iffley with the bonus of a night bus.

  Nice hotel undergoing refurbishment but that didn't impact our stay. Just one night for a work party. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Food was very good especially as there was about 100 of us. Venue was excellent for the purpose. Room was good size, clean and well maintained.
