Reasonably nice place for a game of basketball in Cambridge if you're looking for a court.

Having recently rejoined Kelsey Kerridge after a short absence I thought that I would write an up-to-date review. Kelsey Kerridge sports centre is well known in the loca area as offering a very decent range of facilities, classes and personal training at a very reasonable price. Previously I used both the fitness gym and the weights gym (both great), had one-to-one trianing sessions, and attended the friendly but sufficiently challenging yoga classes, plus made frequent use of the hot tub (very relaxing!) and the cosy but excellent sauna (an excellent addition in my opinion). Both gyms have benefitted from considerable (and, more importantly, thoughtful: credit where it's due) investment within the last couple of years and are certainly more than comparable to anything else available within the City in terms of functionality and equipment choice. At peak times the sports centre is very popular but if you are able to choose your visiting times more carefully then it is very easy to turn up and have the gym of your choice almost completely your own. Recently I have rejoined just to use the weights room and I am very impressed that the gym manager (great job Mus - keep it up!) has purchased some fantastic bits of kit - two Buddy Capps Welding Texas Power Bars (wonderful; I was slightly sad to see one being used for curls in the power rack!!), a Watson Ultimate Bar (a carefully crafted, indestructible, British-made variation of a football bar with super-smooth bearings) and a safety squat bar. Nice to see a sissy squat bench too. Add to this the chains and other bits and pieces and any budding powerlifter should be very happy training here. Bumper plates, a weightlifting bar (with very decent bearings) and a platform are also available. For the hard-of-thinking a rubberised floor area has been added adjacent to the extensive racks of dumbbells (never entirely understood the propensity of some people to drop their dumbbells myself) so there is less impact noise. The weights room is perfect for bodybuilders or anyone wanting to train for general strength. I was pleased to see many of the same, familiar faces using the weights room, and most of the men and women training there are very friendly which is exactly as it should be. If you take the time to chat with the other gym users you'll find that on the whole they are a decent bunch, including competitive bodybuilders and other athletes who are often genuinely enthusiatic and deeply interested in or dedicated to their sports. The gym staff are as friendly, helpful and professional as I remember and I must admit that I am very happy to be a member of Kelsey Kerridge once again.

Excellent prices - I don't believe you could find a cheaper gym in Cambridge. This gives you the chance to try anything. I go to two classes regularly and love that I only pay when I attend - still cheaper than any block booked class I could find elsewhere. The changing rooms have recently been updated and are lovely. Fantastic view from the treadmills.

I went there this weekend, and the first impression is that is a nice place. They have nice stuff, but the men's toilets (from changing room) are not cleaned well (it's not a day thing)...The boulder room is small, but has a sufficient variety of the routes for most skills. Unfortunately most of the holds are in bad condition, withoutadhesion or good touch, dirty (lots of chalk)... I consider that very harmful and is easy to solve (changing or washing the holds!) I hope they do!. Edit 22/10/17 I come back one month afther the first comment, I'm happy to say they have clean it up and reorganise the routes, I enjoyed. I will repeat usually.

Good location inside Cambridge and friendly staff. The floor of the sports hall has been recently refurbished, which was great for a few weeks, but again it is not cleaned as it is required for such a place. So when playing volleyball, regular cleaning of the shoes is required, otherwise it gets quite slippy. It also does not help that many guests seem to wear outdoor running shoes in the hall. The boulder room is small, but has a sufficient variety of the routes for most skills. Unfortunately loose chalk is allowed which makes the place terribly dusty, I doubt it would be considered a safe workplace with such a high air pollution. This would be easy to solve by only permitting liquid chalk, and ban the chalk sacks. Otherwise the ventilation would require a huge upgrade to get rid of the dust. The opening times in the morning (never before 9Am) are very inconvenient for those who want to go shortly to the gym before work. I hope this will change soon, it is the main reason why I have not signed up yet, only used the pay-as-you-go you go options so far, which are a fair alternative but could be a little bit cheaper, especially for climbing.
