    Honest Review

    Well worth a visit - the architecture is a huge access. The work from 2010 was certainly worth it! And of course a stunning array of art inside.

    Excellent exhibitions - good one focussing on John and Paul Nash currently - the amount of material can vary. There is an activity corner for children and a work room for school groups. Interesting shop selling original works - emphasis on ceramics at the moment - and a separate sales area for cards and similar small items in the foyer. The gardens are now an extension of the gallery, but if you explore them late in the afternoon they might, in a fit of closing time diligence, drop the steel shutter to prevent your return to the main exhibition area. I took it in good heart and have survived ......

    Laudate Dominum

    ::

    This is a small, very small, gallery. Don't turn up thinking you'll spend hours here. It's just one floor of 4 rooms. One whole room is devoted to yellow ceramics. Another is devoted to the sort of modern rubbish that gives art a bad name, & two more have such a mix of paintings one concludes that either it wasn't so much as curated as hung on walls where there was a space by someone with a hammer & a bag of nails, or a committee that simply can't arrive at a decision. It's fine for an escape from the rain but not actually a destination.

    Great collection of still life and abstract. Loved William Etty's collection. I cannot have enough of Anthony Shaw's. Very nice and knowledgeable staff if you have questions, but do not go deep into the artwork's background. I have the privilege of free entrance as a student, but it's definitely not worth the money you might pay unless there is an exhibition.
