  My wife had her breast cancer surgery and all the staff who looked after her were great and very attentive. Every step was explained well. Can't fault the care she received.

  Although no one wants to have to go here weather as a patient or a vistor the staff are always kind if not overly busy. I have been treated as a emergency at a and e but also as an emergency gp case both times I was treated gently and had every step explained to me I never felt left alone my husband was feed and given lots of drinks whilst he was waiting with me. I was put on a short list to have my operation on the Friday and was then phoned on the Monday to have my op on the Tuesday. Operation was fine I was looked after by one nurse who gave me lots of care and attention his career of me was amazing. I was allowed home that night and surgeon rang me two days later to check how I was doing. An amazing service which is believe is completely understand rated.

  Large hospital comprised of many buildings which house different departments. Before visiting it's a good idea to know exactly where you need to be. There are regular buses running to and from the hospital itself.

  Had to take my wife in to A&E last Saturday because she had breathing difficulties and our doctors' surgery was shut because of the snow. Absolutely first class treatment - seen immediately, underwent a full array of test from very caring staff and could not have had better treatment. Cannot thank them enough.

  Our 88 year old dad was in southmead for the second time in two months with pneumonia! He was moved several times from admissions etc, onto ward 28 a! The nursing staff were brilliant in each department on both occasions, looked after him really well! Then dad was admitted to Elgar 1. What a rubbish ward it is! No disrespect to them, but all the other patients had dementia, so there was no conversation to be had, just one shouting all day and night, another singing loudly, and a man wandering about at all times of night and day removing other patients belongings from their locker, including dads, which upset him very much! The staff seemed unconcerned about any of it! It is meant to be a rehab ward but it seems but more like a holding bay for patients with nowhere else to go! Dad seemed to go downhill whilst there, was very depressed and unhappy! He didn't get help to shave for 5 days, the staff made the excuse that it was because he couldn't stand to shave, but surely they have a perching stool! We had to take him in an electric shaver in the end! Not a good experience ! H
