I hired The Blue Lion for a combination of my birthday and a surprise party for my partner (50+ people). There is absolutely nothing that I would have changed in choosing The Blue Lion. Cheryl, the owner is flexible, accommodating, responsive and understanding. The staff who served us were friendly and did a great job. I ordered the rustic buffet which was mounds of cheese, large baguettes, meats and condiments ( I wanted something for my guests to nibble on as we were there from 7pm-1am), and the food was abundant, tasty and perfect for what I wanted. They also supplied me with some plates and napkins for a cake that my friend had brought (this had been discussed in advance). I was able to have my own playlist and decorate the way that I wanted. Many of my guests commented on the size and layout of the venue (in a positive way), and the pool table was well used. I saw half a dozen places before I chose The Blue Lion and I could not be happier that I did.

Could not fault the workers who served at our engagement party back in 2016. Everything was outstanding until the food came out at the event. We felt welcomed at the venue when we went to view, the owner was great and we could decorate how we liked and use our own DJ. What ruined it for us was when we had paid £250 for the food, which you could have got for £50 max from your local shop. To say we were disappointed would have been an understatement and to have 100+ close family and friends (we both have big families) keep complaining that they are hungry throughout a big event in your life is unsettling. Even for nibbles it was very little and our guests were not expecting meals and I was not expecting meals for this, but at least a little nibble each. However, I was expecting £200 worth of food not meals but food that was the money I had paid and there clearly was not. I understand that profits have to be made but not on that scale. Unfortunately false information was then brought up when trying to sort everything out. When discussing this with the owner, it was dealt with unprofessionally. The owner cannot take constructive criticism or admit when wrong. I have uploaded the pictures of the food, which were taken 2 mins after the food had come out, as you can see people rushed to get food and look at how little there was and all for £250!

We hired the Blue Lion for our wedding reception and we could not more highly recommend it. Everything we asked for was in place and the whole evening ran smoothly and like clockwork. Many of our guests commented on what a wonderful location it was. The thing we loved is that we were able to really make it feel like ‘our space’ for the evening, we were able to decorate it how we wanted and Cheryl (the landlady) was so accommodating in meeting with us and addressing our requests. The food was lovely and we were bowled over by how helpful and welcoming the staff were on the night. If you are looking to hire a pub for an event and you want character, a feeling of warmth and space then this is the place for you. We especially loved the layout of the pub, we had 85 guests and everyone was able to sit down, have their own area in the various nooks but there was still plenty of space to dance and move around. We had the most perfect of days and the Blue Lion was a huge part of this.

The Blue Lion turned out a smashing place for a zero-ended birthday party. The staff were relaxed and accomodating, the food was top-end and the space was flexible and inviting. It's got a quirky chic vibe and if I'm still around in ten years for the next celebration I'll be back.

In late January 2018 our walking group of some 45 people, hired The Blue Lion on a Sunday afternoon to hold its AGM and Annual Dinner. Cheryl was very accommodating and went out of her way to make sure that everything went smoothly. We all very much enjoyed our visit to The Blue Lion, it was a great friendly atmosphere. Cheryl and her staff looked after us really well. To be recommended!
