The venue is pleasant and the upstairs dining room is light. The food is average pub grub. Service was polite. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again.

Had a wonderful meal, with Steak and ale pie with its mashed potatoes, and an Apple/Rhubarb crumble. It was very good and the staff was really kind. You have conquered at least 1 Frenchie!

I enjoyed their fish and chips. The have two options for Gluten-free, that and the steak. They make the chips separated. Gluten-free lager available too. Quiet and cosy.

This is a lovely pub serving classic British food at reasonable prices for the area. A short distance from Trafalgar Square, The Clarence is in an excellent central location. We dined in The Tin Belly dining room upstairs, which in a weekday evening in January was pleasantly quiet. The waiter did say it does get very busy usually though so booking is recommended. The menu and wine list were both fairly substantial and lots of good options to choose from. Food arrived swiftly and was well portioned. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal and said the food was very good quality. Our waiter was polite and attentive, filling wine glasses when they ran low. I would recommend this place if you’re after a cosy pub to have good food in.

As a non-tourist (I live and work in London) I can confirm that this pub is NOT a tourist trap! The prices are very reasonable, the staff very friendly and polite and the food was great! I had the fish and chips (which is always hit and miss in Central London), but this was beautiful; fresh fish with perfectly cooked batter and chips. It was a very generous portion too. Will definitely go again if I'm in the area.
