We met at work in Lichfield 30 years ago and decided for our 27th wedding anniversary to go back to where it all began for us. We picked the George Hotel for it’s central location and it’s write ups on the various websites such as Trip Advisor. We were more than happy with the room with it’s four poster bed, separate sitting room and two TVs. We were looking forward to celebrating our anniversary with a meal in the well regarded restaurant at the George but were left feeling a little flat as the restaurant was in effect closed to us. We stayed on the 16th of February and the hotel had chosen to hold a gin and food event on that evening and closed the restaurant to those guests who were not attending the event. We were offered a bar meal but chose to eat elsewhere and had a very nice Italian meal at a restaurant not too far from the hotel. To be fair and balanced the hotel and room were excellent but we were very disappointed that the restaurant was closed to us as we do not drink gin and did not want to attend the arranged function. Had we been informed that the restaurant was closed to those who were not attending the gin and food evening we would have stayed elsewhere. We also think that the hotel should have offered alternative dining arrangements for those guests who did not want to attend the gin and food function.

Always stay here whilst in Lichfield. Smack.bang in middle of restaurants and bars. Winter saver rate was fantastic and breakfast buffet is great. Better quality items than PREM inn

We have a very enjoyable visit here. The hotel is very welcoming, staff are friendly and it's central for Lichfield. The bedroom was dated but very clean and comfortable, with plenty of tea, coffee and hot chocolate. It had a shower and bath. The hotel doesn't have a lift and has lots of stairs and steps, so not suitable for people who are unstable on their feet. Food was excellent for dinner and breakfast. We also did the murder mystery which was great fun. Would recommend.

Mixed review, Firstly the Restaurant food is amazing, we ate an evening meal with a wedding party, every course was incredible and the staff so attentive. Special thanks to Mark the Restaurant manager for making it extra special. Here’s the bit that lets it down. The reception staff, 2 different ladies where absolutely vile from start to finish, no customer service skills at all, not even a polite friendly smile upon arrival. One lady was very unprofessionally, kicking off at the duty manager regarding a new system in place which she hadn’t been trained on in front of guests, I wish I had taken names but these 2 women need sacking because they are a very poor Addition to the hotel. We stayed on Saturday 27th and it was clearly a lively little town which is really nice, what you don’t want is to hear this in your room at night until 3am in the morning, single pained glass windows in such a noisy area, not clever ,very poor. I would 100% stay for food again but as for the hotel and front of house staff, it has put me off ever booking a room with them again.

Stayed 2 nights whilst on a buisness trip. Great hotel in the heart of everything with many shops just walking distance. Rooms were slightly dated to that of a modern hotel but the hotel had character. Food from the Darwin Restaurant was top, opted for the prawns starter followed by cod loin main, everything was cooked to perfection.
