A lovely pub with good food. A bit pricey so be sure you want something.

Dreadful place. Miserable staff and food.... the lady I booked with wad lovely, friendly and fun so out was quite a shock just how miserable the other staff were. Service was slow, the chicken liver pate looked good but was tasteless (& the toast cold).... or mains courses again looked good but soggy roast potatoes because they had smothered everything in gloopy generic gravy. I asked for some crispy roast potatoes and we were served with a huge bowl of crispy but ridiculously greasy roasties (out literally dropped off of them) we did have dessert which was ice cream which was a safe bet and my husband's dessert he said was actually the best part of his meal. Too awful to give it another chance.

I had taken a risk, booking with no prior knowledge of this hotel but we were in for a lovely surprise. It's a well run, clean and welcoming establishment with excellent food and service. Our room was across a pleasant courtyard which meant use of an umbrella but the room itself was large and very comfortable. One night was not a long enough stay! We were there in January and it was busy but pleasant. I can imagine it being much livelier in the high season with Paulton's Park next door. Other than that it is well situated for access to the New Forest, Southampton for shopping and not too far from the motorway.
