  The first monument, celebrating the heroism of women who participated in the Second World War, was erected on Whitehall Street in London in July 2005. The monument, the work of the John Mills sculpture, is not a typical military memorial. He presented women's uniforms of the British Army's various troops, as well as the working clothes of women who replaced men in factories, hospitals and farms during the war. Most of the funds for the women's monument during World War II were gathered by Baroness Boothroyd, the first and only so far female Speaker of the House of Commons

  War is never a good thing. But sometimes it’s inevitable. Most of the time when there is a monument built to commemorate the soldiers of a specific war, it’s usually the men who get recognized. But various countries around the world have monuments and statues commemorating the women involved as well. This memorial was raised to commemorate the vital work done by nearly seven million women in World War II. It was unveiled by Her Majesty the Queen on July 9 2005. If you’re in the area be sure to stop and take a look, a photo, and remember these brave women who gave it their all and fought for Queen and Country during WW2.

  The memorial really touched me when I stumbled upon it on my way to the House of Parliament. ❤️

  I love, love this memorial. It is unique and if you are walking to Westminister Abbey from Trafalgar Square anyways you might as well and get a picture. It is on a medium between traffic so you can get a picture next to it.
