Many of the animals are cramped up in tiny cages (eg, 8 or more birds in a cage I wouldn't feel comfortable keeping 2 or 3 in) and bad conditions. The cages get cleaned but it always seems to be a rush job and no care is taken to make sure animals get any comfort out of where they are living, we've been in a few times to find gerbils and other small animals with damp fur panting in overheated cages. The fish and frogs for sale have no foliage or hiding places to give them comfort from customers staring at them, and the frogs especially during our visits we could see no platform or foliage for them to sit on they were just floating in the water in the back corner of the tank looking as if they were struggling to breathe. The owner seems complacent at best, to the point where when a pet we had purchased from them died of a pre existing (undiscovered) illness within a week of our bringing it home he refused to even check the other animals in his care to make sure ours was the only one affected. When issues are presented to him to do with his animals (we had previously complained about the state of the frogs, thinking one had died - it turned out to just be very lethargic) he blames his staff. He repeatedly pins any issues on the guy that cleans the tanks, or the guy that checks the fish, or the guy that cleans the birds out, or whatever other person he can use to take blame off his own failures. Perhaps unrelated to the business itself I've been in a good number of times over the last two years and that parrot they have in the corner has gone from being a bright and talkative bird to awfully quiet and withdrawn, often sitting at the back of its cage with its back to the room. I worry for its health and wellbeing, atop those of the other animals, as when I first met the bird it seemed very energetic and loud as you would expect a parrot to be but it no longer displays any of those traits when I have seen it.
