::Firstly, the lady on the counter was great. However, I cannot rate Avis. I asked for a Mercedes A Class rental on Monday. The Friday before I call Avis and asked if I would definitely get one. The woman on the phone said no, she thought they would all be out, but a C class was available. I was going to a very important interview and was looking to impress, so I said I’d be happy to upgrade IF they could guarantee the C class, which the lady kindly said she would put aside for me on Monday. I turned up on Monday to a Citroen Picasso. The only other vehicle available was a van. I still ended up paying the same amount for a Mercedes as I did for a very averagely specced garlic box family MPV. To say that I was disappointed in the company would be far too polite, but this is a public review. The drivers wiper was also ineffective and made driving in the rain extremely difficult and tiresome on my 320 mile journey. Good luck Avis, I shall be using Enterprise next time.

::Had kind of mixed experiences. Used these guys multiple times, the cars have been good and in good condition mostly for me at least and the guys are pretty friendly if you don't question them on certain things. I seem to have some minor problems with the counter staff as I tend to book over the phone and then arrive to confirm details / make deposit and take car away. Its this part where the branch staff seem to have issues retrieving the details important to me, such as the fact I asked to the reduced excess and the breakdown cover etc etc. It begs the question If there's no record of it, why do they bother to ask you for this in the telephone booking process? Also I have a bit of a gear to grind as last time round I found out at the expense of having to drive my own car all the way home and booking taxis, that there is nowhere to leave your car whilst you hire theirs. I was told it states this "on the paperwork". Well a) no it doesn't (Check for yourselves when your telephone booking confirmation comes in via email) and the tele rep certainly didn't say anything about this when I booked on the telephone. Little annoying to find this out on the day. Lastly they're using a new touch screen signing method at the counters which is great but you are asked to sign the part of the paperwork that says if the car has any cosmetic damage BEFORE the car was available to give it the once over. I worry that some people will sign this and forget to check their cars and this could get them in all sorts of potential bother. Overall good, but I can see from other forums that im not the only one having some of these minor issues.

::Whilst Avis themselves may be a different 'kettle of fish' I have to say that I find the team at Avis Basingstoke to very good. I have had four rentals from them and not an issue to date whatsoever.
