  I didn't end up buying from Brides of York (just didn't have quite the right dress for me - i'm too picky!) but I tried on over 100 dresses in my search so went to A LOT of bridal shops and Brides of York was THE BEST service I had. I popped into the shop on a Saturday without an appointment. Someone had failed to turn up for their appointment and even though they didn't have long till the next lady they were more than happy to let me try on dresses. The best part however was their knowledge. They had me try on something I would never had picked and it was amazing. The woman who seemed in charge knew exactly what would look best on me, even better than I did. I've heard similar stories from other Yorkshire brides. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

  Brides of York rac - we are sorry to hear you found your appointment uncomfortable. We pride ourselves on being able to offer our customers a large fitting room, rather than a cubicle and out of public view. Every bride who enters the shop is talked through our collections whether they have an appointment or not. We like to help brides into our dresses as it is easier for the bride and reccomendations are made incase we think you have missed something we think could suit you. It is not imperative you have to try our suggestions. Our brides also have after sales service of complimentary storage and pressing of the gown before the big day, free wedding dress insurance provided by the Retail bridalwear association and an in house alteration service.   It was a very uncomfortable experience. There were two women in a very large mirrored room with me who stared at me as I got undressed. I know you can't help getting undressed in front of strangers when trying dresses on but I have been to a few shops now and this feel very undigified. Another women kept entering the room without knocking and then left the door open. They practical said here are the dresses choose what you like without much direction or discussion. After trying the ones you like apparently a young girl decides what she thinks would suit you and she chose something completely different from what I said I liked, it was awful. I did try nice dresses on and I'm not saying the collection was awful but the service I recieved has put me off returning to the shop.

  Absolutely fantastic service! I looked in bridal shops across the York and Darlington area before my wedding in June this year and found the perfect wedding gown at Brides of York. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and professional at every stage of the process, from my initial visit, choosing accessories, several fittings, right through to the point of collecting my dress. I was never made to feel rushed and I felt that the staff fully appreciated what I wanted from the gown and gave excellent suggestions about styles and accessories. The whole experience was thoroughly enjoyable and I would happily recommend them to future brides!
