Wonderful old building.Small bar upstairs with limited seating. Able to take drinks into the cinema. Access to balcony outside. Cosy space with comfortable seats and sofas upstairs on the balcony. Enjoyable place to see a film in!

Oldest cinema in the country and an exceptional moviegoer experience. You can take beers etc. into your movies! Super comfortable seats and Duke's is renowned for their obscure movies and events. Things like movies for mums on Saturdays where mom's can take screaming children in with other moms who understand.

Great historic cinema now part of Picturehouse chain. Only one screen, and foyer can get very crowded before sold out shows, but great for one-off events. Toddler Time at 11am on Mondays is a favourite!

What is happening at Duke of York? Love our local cinema but service seems to be slipping. Dropped into the upper floor cafe this afternoon (New Year's Day) for a quiet coffee, warm and cosy......until a staff member appeared and wedged opened the balcony door, just next to us. Apparently this is a health and safety requirement when the pizza oven is turned on - to prevent staff behind the bar getting too hot. There was no one there apart from my wife and I, so we had to drink our coffee in the cold, so he wouldn't get too hot. My real issue is that he didn't seem interested in us as customers or prepared to look at the situation from our point of view. I do wonder what is happening to staff morale - when up to now we have always found the staff to be very friendly and considerate.

I am a regular visitor to this great old cinema. Huge screen and comfy seats. Coffee, cakes, craft beer, wine and other quality snacks. Always a good atmosphere plus the frequent chance to watch blockbuster movies at 10.30 in the morning. Love it!
