::Please make sure you check everything on your car before you rent it from Europcar. Take pictures of the body work, inside the car and EVEN the tires. We rented the car and drove it for about a week. Did not put a lot of miles on the car. When we returned the car, the inspector said that there was a small cut on the side of the tire. It was a straight cut about 2-3 cm. I could barely see it and would not have noticed it even if I looked and I work on cars all the time. The tire was not leaking or had any issues. When I asked him how I was supposed to even see such a small cut and aren't tires just a normal wear and tear item. He got very rude and just walked away which shocked my wife and I. We then reached out to him and made him write a note that we don't feel that we are NOT responsible for the small cut. Now the company is charging me for a new tire. I would never rent from them again. I have been renting cars my whole life for personal and work and NEVER have has any issues. Be aware. They might be cheap but they get their money in other ways.

::I didn't realise at time of paying but when I looked back on invoice, Europcar charged me a surcharge of almost €100 for one way car rental even though it was collected and left back to Edinburgh airport. I booked the car online and the same collection and finishing points were inputted (Edinburgh airport). Somehow they wrote on the invoice that I paid (left ar Inverness airport). I've emailed Europcar over 1 week ago and have yet to get a reply (I got an automated email which stated it may take 7 days to reply which is too long as it anyways).

::As always a very pleasant experience with Europcar. The service was excellent; picking up the keys at the counter was quite quick and easy, and the returning was easy and excellent. (And we had a brand new car, which was perfect). I would recommand Europcar to anyone

::They tried to make us responsible for tyre damage which made the car dangerous to drive (even though it was right next to damage to the alloy which had been listed and no one had been able to see the tyre because their car wash had been frozen due to the snow). We were furious that they had jeopardised our safety and the representative refused to apologise and argued with us for far too long when we told him we wanted to complain. I've had awful experiences with Europcar previously too and would never ever use them for personal trips.

::I am from New Zealand and this was my first time using Europcar and I booked them to get a good choice of an automatic transmission car, which always seem a bit scarce in UK, but why you would want to drive anything else in congested cities I don't know. Picking up the keys at the counter was quick and easy and the car ready and waiting outside. The car was near new and presented well. The controls of the car were so different to what I am used to particularly the electronics, so I would have appreciated the brief 'how to' instructions for the car being placed in view and not for me to find hidden behind the sunvisor once I'd laboriously figured out how to adjust the seat, steering wheel, mirrors and get the car actually moving. and then have the instructions fall down when I needed to put the visor down some kilometres down the road. All went well with the rental after that initial start and the car was good to drive. The return process also went very smoothly and quickly. I would recommend Europcar Edinburgh to anyone based on my experience.
