::Hotel, location and staff were excellent. Let down by very average food. No smoked salmon at breakfast on first day and only one avocado on next - not good enough. Dinner very second rate and over pretentious. No daily newspapers, no pad or pens in room. For a hotel that wishes to consider itself one of the best in York, many small matters need to be addressed. We would come again, but only on a B&B basis.

::The place is inside the walls and side by side with the gorgeous York Minsk. The location could not be better. The rooms are perfect, quiet and designed to make you have a great sleeping. The breakfast is to die, and you eat with an astonishing view of the walls and the gardens. The staff is excellent and the manager, Nick, will make you feel comfortable. Simply the best

::Location is great. The Hotel is extremely pretentious. But the gap between ,what they want to be and what they really are , is just dramatic. The hotel’s walls inside are decorated with dubious modern art paintings and very strange photographs , like smiling terrorist with Kalashnikov machine gun or imprisoned men and so on.The service in the restaurant is below average standards, we waited more then an hour to have our starters.

::Really great hotel! Clean - breakfast and dinner was outstanding. Friendly staff and great cocktails. Nice intimate areas and comfortable seating around the hotel. The only complaint is our room smellt of food the whole weekend not sure if it was because of the location in relation to the kitchen?? Apart from that very good - would stay again but not in the same room. Thank you

::Stayed here for the night and it was lovely. Specifically to the restraunt: one of the best meals I've had in York and the surrounding areas. A must visit. £45 per head for a 5 course meal (Dec 2017), it was generous and very tasty. Had the Fillet steak and cheek for main which was perfectly cooked and came with lovely extras. The cheese plate was excellent. Wine list wasn't particularly long or astounding but what it did have was varied and reasonably priced. The cocktails were excellent.
