::I'd give less than 1 star if I could. The majority of the staff are rude, Martin (kitchen designer) and one of his fellow female designe colleagues are lovely. My builder and I went in to discuss issues with the design, the manager wasn't in and the assistant manager, who we were told was doing paperwork, refused to come out to see us. The kitchen was designed in a way that made it impossible to house two single ovens under an induction hob with a standard thickness granite worktop. They had this vital information available but failed to advise me of this. We only realised the issue after the kitchen had been fitted and ovens in situ. Their suggestion was to drop the ovens and put a filler piece between the ovens and worktop to "frame" them. Good idea perhaps, but this didn't look aesthetically pleasing with the modern open plan kitchen that had been designed and a framed oven was not what I wanted. If they had given me this information I would have asked them to reposition the ovens before I bought the kitchen. The problem I then encountered in trying to resolve the issue was that if I repositioned the ovens, was increased fitting charges in addition to purchasing other units as the existing ones had been fitted, as per their design plan! Surely as designers and manufacturers of kitchens you have the knowledge to inform customers of issues and overcome these prior to selling the kitchen? I informed staff I would not have a kitchen for Christmas as I couldn't get a thicker worktop manufactured in time. There were no other companies who could do it but if they had advised us at the design stage that we would have to get a thicker worktop, it could have been manufactured in time. Granted, the cost of my worktop increased by four figures but at least I would have a kitchen. Speaking to Danielle today she refused to speak to the assistant manager when I informed her I would have no kitchen until the week beginning 8th January, she simply replied "what's the problem?". The assistant manager was apparently on the counter serving customers. After suggesting that she speak to him to tell him of the situation she rudely stated "don't tell me how to do my job". However, she then kindly put me on hold and Ian, the assistant manager, took over the phone call. He was ruder than Danielle and so unhelpful, unable to make decisions in case he gets in trouble with the manager. Whenever Ian spoke he contradicted himself. First he didn't know what the issue was then he said he knew about the ovens. Then he was in front of clients speaking to me followed by a statement saying he was in the office. At no point have howdens when apologised for the error. They don't care that my home will not have a working kitchen, they've not even offered a temporary worktop until my granite worktop is completed. As they were at fault in not providing me with information on the issues with their design you would expect them to try their utmost to come to a satisfactory resolution. Instead they simply argue and act in a dismissive manner. My advice is look elsewhere for your kitchen if you value customer service and require quick resolutions to problems. I quote howdens "the bitterness of poor quality is remembered long after the sweetness of a low price is forgotten".

::Where do you begin with Kitchen Planning? Started the process a couple of months ago at Howdens with Reg @ St Helens. Did the rounds, did the research, spoke to tradespeople and the final decision was Reg and Howdens. Reg was BRILLIANT - our "can we try this Reg?" were never a problem and he was VERY knowledgeable and patient. Without doubt, the deciding factor was the unanimous view that Howdens were an excellent company to deal with and they delivered their units already assembled. Thank you Howdens and in particular Reg!
