::I'm employed as an Area Sales Manager and drive a company lease vehicle. The policy dictates that I have to use Kwik Fit for all of my tyre needs. Normally I will travel around 30,000 miles per year and probably have new tyres more frequently than the average motorist. Foss Islands Road is the Kwik Fit garage closest to where I live and therefore has often been my first point of call over a period of several years. Because I require my car to do my job, I don't have the luxury of waiting hour upon hour for a tyre to be replaced or repaired. However, upon every visit to this particular store, irrespective of the time of arrival, I have never been dealt with swiftly and have always been asked to leave the car for several hours - time which I simply don't have. Previously I've driven a car with run-flat tyres which at the time were not carried as stock items. Already knowing they would have to be ordered for fitment the following day, I have asked for a Technician to take a quick look at the car to confirm replacements would have to be ordered - probably a five minute job? No - not here. On every occasion I've either had to leave the car with them for the best part of a day or wait hours for someone to check the tyres before they could even be ordered. I've never expected any 'special service', only a sympathetic view that I would have to come back the following day anyway so why have to wait hours just to have them checked in the first place!? There's nothing at all 'Kwik' about this garage and this is my experience over a number of visits across a span of several years and not just one isolated case. If it wasn't for the fact I have no choice other than to use Kwik Fit, I would never choose to use this particular branch. Surely if they don't have enough staff at this store, then Kwik Fit should do something about it and remedy the issue as this is their main depot in the city of York? In the past I have resorted to driving miles to a branch in Leeds, Hull or elsewhere instead of here to save myself some serious time. Unless you're visiting York for the day and can leave your vehicle, have the odd 6 hours or so to kill, or simply no other option, do yourself a favour and avoid Kwik Fit at Foss Islands Road. There are many other Kwik Fit garages that offer superb service. So why this branch is so bad I simply don't understand!?

::So, we called the store to book in for a tyre change after side wall damage was picked up on the service. I phoned in the evening to book my car in at 8.30am the very next morning. Upon arriving we were advised to leave the car with them for “a hour to an hour and a half” now bare in mind that we had a slot pre booked for 8.30am and having tyres changed in the past i know this is no more than a 15 minute job. We requested if it can be done quicker as i had an appointment to go to, to which the responce was “we will see what we can do” Having gone and had a coffee and returned within half an hour the car was on the ramp but still had the wheel attached. We then proceeded to watch the young pubescent mechanic sleepily wonder around the garage in a zombie like state looking for this wheel nut adapotor. It took almost 20 minutes to remove the bolts. At this point I should mention, there was no difficulty in removing the bolts it was the time taken to place them on a shelf one at a time. Whilst watching the palaver unfold, another mechanic (who started 30 mintues behind him) managed to remove a wheel, remove the tyre, change the tyre and balance the wheel all in the same amount of time that it took the young pubescent mechanic to grease my wheel like he was painting the Sistine Chapel. Somebody should please inform this young gentleman that he works for KWIK FIT and not SLOW FIT and teach him basic economics that if you move faster you can change more tyres. Ergo, you can make more money. Do Not Use this branch if you are looking for KWIK turnaround. However, if you fancy a day out in York and you are stuck for somewhere to park, ask them to change your tyre and you will have ‘free parking’ for the day.

::Our car was showing a fault part way to an overnight trip to York on a Sunday. Called in advance and limped there. Man was so lovely and helpful. We left the car while we went to an attraction. Got a call as promised after to an hour to say fault cleared and reset - £35. Allowed us to leave car in the car park for the rest of the day. Lovely service and high integrity.
