  Comfortable room let down by freezing conditions. Staff admitted that heating does not work in some rooms, therefore it's pot luck if you visit in the depths of winter. Probably should have taken advantage of free sauna! Had a meal in the bar, they managed to cook the wrong thing, got what I actually ordered 20 minutes later, they obviously re-fried the original chips so they were a bit crunchy! Breakfast was not as warm as I would have liked (self service) and the coffee was awful. The room was large, bed comfortable, just let down by the lack of heating. If I had to stay in the area again I'd probably opt for a Premier Inn.

  Poor hotel. When we arrived the reception area was freezing cold. We checked in and went to the room and found that the heating wasn't working. We decided to go to reception to discuss this and went down the stairs instead of using the lift. There was an overpowering smell of damp and we could see damp on the ceilings, as we walked further down the stairs there was a bucket on the floor catching drips from the leaking ceiling. The receptionist was aware of the problem of heat in the rooms but hadn't told us. They offered to give us a small heater to warm the room up which we accepted. The staff were pleasant but not friendly and the whole hotel had a cold and uninviting atmosphere.

  Attended a MBS event there. It was cold as heating did not work. Management refuse to attend to jobs required to bring hotel up to acceptable standard. Frontline staff excellent and work hard to cover lack of management support. Mercure should look into this as such a shame as used to be a very decent hotel.

  Quite disappointed in fairness, room was cold and the heating didn't work, the unit to control the heating was broke and couldn't read the display. Colleagues who were staying same hotel had the same problem and apparently it had been like that for days with no maintenance team to deal with it. There was no hot water from the sink tap do had to shave over the bath using the shower head.... Not good. The king size bed was not a king size bed, it was two singles pushed together which my partner and I could feel so we basically slept in two single beds pushed together. Took over 10 minutes for the reception staff to actually find my booking and was generally disappointed with the whole affair. The only decent thing was the bar staff and how professional and friendly they were.

  Christmas Celebration Meal was very poor. The turkey was obviously processed and the vegetables badly cooked. The soup was tasty but barely warm. The sweet was passable. The coffee was served five minutes before the milk was brought round consequently it was almost cold from waiting. The service was so disorganised that some guests had finished their meal before others on the same table had received theirs. All together a total disappointment and would not recommend.
