  Had mixed reviews from people more negative so have waited before taking the plunge. We had an excellent evening at portofino in Hythe last night. Went for a girls night out at least 20 of us. Food took a while to come out but as we were a large group it’s only to be expected. The food was lovely and well worth waiting for. Drinks a bit pricey especially for Hythe but the staff looked after us and with the excellent company we had a great time. Would definitely go back again definitely

  Bland garlic bread. Good veal. Lovely candolim. Very good service.

  I went here back in October with my boyfriend and my brother and his girlfriend. Great start, lovely interior and the staff were attentive and helpful. However the food was less than desirable. I ordered the risotto and was completely underwhelmed. I love risotto and order it often, even if it isn't the best I'll still eat it, however this risotto lacked any flavour whatsoever, and very stodgy. It was like eating a plate of tasteless mashed potatoes. It was so bad I couldn't have more than a couple of mouthfuls, a first for me. The head waiter, or boss (not sure what he was) came to ask if there was anything wrong with the meal and I told him how bland it was and he instead of apologising told me this is how risotto should be, insinuating I was the one with the problem - not the chefs. I told him I know how risotto should be and this ain't it! When I've been in a group before and someone doesn't eat their meal due to the taste or quality the charge of that meal is always taken off the bill so I thought as a courtesy this man would have removed the risotto from our bill, but he didn't. So I ended up paying for a meal I didn't eat. My boyfriend's seafood pasta was also completely lacking in taste or seasoning and the other two had steak and duck and these were both fine but unremarkable. We then went upstairs to the bar and this was very nice, good cocktails and skilled bar staff. This restaurant has great potential and can be a real asset to Hythe as long as they get their food up to scratch.

  Portofino has now been open for two weeks and friends took my wife and myself out for a meal. We got to the restaurant and was met at the door and taken to our table! Then ten minutes later we had the menu brought to our table and the waitress went to walk off so we had to ask for a drink. After this our table service was excellent I put the initial service down to being new as we all have to star somewhere. When we ordered the starter this came out in a timely manner as did the main. When we ordered the deserts the waitress came back to say they only had one left, I felt this was a little poor as it was only 19:30 and they had a lot more bookings that night! The food was top notch and staff very helpful. This restaurant will be a great asset to up and coming hythe. We will be back in the near future. Keep up the good work.
