  We were on our way to somewhere else, but I'd heard of the #TDCCDF quite a few times and my mate knew where the rather obscure entrance was. After a simple ring of the ordinary bell, in we went... to an oasis. The young lady at the door was accommodating, and we were seated quickly and efficiently, to enjoy the live music, which was, I must say, exceptional - offering smooth versions of wonderful songs on a ukulele and piano. What a treat... I have some video because the performance was that good. But the lighting is, let's say, no good for recording. The bar staff were attentive too and were happy to conjure up cocktails to a random list of preferred ingredients... I read this week that this was voted one of the top 10 bars in the UK. I can see why. I would highly recommend...

  Visiting the Dead Canary is a bit of a unique experience, you bang on an old door with a cryptic feather next to it and a man with a beard and braces leads you into the speakeasy. There are more men with beards and braces who can make any drink known to man to a very high standard. The acts they have on vary wildly and you can feel a bit left out if you get seated off the beaten track. It's not cheap, but drink quality, staff knowledge and the characteristic atmosphere make it worth a visit. Do note you've got to pre-book.

  One of the best cocktail bars in Cardiff. Well worth a look if you're visiting from out of town. Remember to make a booking to avoid awkwardness at the door.

  Amazing little speakeasy bar. Tough to find if you haven't been there so definitely ask someone if your nearby but don't know how to get in. Table service and live music are wonderful, as are the cocktails though be warned that you need to book on a Friday or Saturday night and you're looking at cocktails starting at £8 and can be anywhere up to £12 for a drink. The quality is unmatched but it's easy to spend a hundred quid without even realising it. If you want a cheap night out this isn't the place for you, but if money's no object and you're looking for the coolest setting and the best cocktails in town, then look no further.
