Considering the fairly good reviews, we decided to book a table for a family birthday lunch. We had a table booked for 2pm, but on arrival were told it wasn't ready and to grab a drink whilst we wait. So we waited, and waited! It took 45 minutes for our table to be ready, with staff occasionally telling us the wait would only be a couple of minutes more. The bar area isn't exactly spacious so we were constantly getting in the way of other people which isn't fun for anyone. When we were finally seated we enquired as to why there was such a delay, even though we had booked. Apparently it was the fault of the previous diners who wanted dessert and a coffee. I really hope they had left by then, because I'd hate to think they'd heard the staff blame them for their lack of table management. It shouldn't be an issue to order food off the menu!! It was a Sunday so we were looking forward to a roast. Because we were seated so late they had sold out of half of the choices. Normally I would have just left, but everyone was hungry so some of us had our second choice. When the mains arrived they were very average. Warm at best, overcooked veg and soggy roast potatoes. As we were there for a birthday we decided to have dessert (sorry if someone else was delayed because of this) but as you'll have guessed, they had sold out of a few options again! We did assume that after this fairly poor show they would at least offer us some money off, or pay for the drinks we had when we waited, but they didn't offer anything. We barely had an apology. One thing I didn't use before eating (or we definitely would have left) was the toilets! You could smell them before you found them, and they were disgusting. They were on par with old public toilets that hadn't been refurbished in about 20 years. How someone can work there and not think to deal with that is beyond me. Maybe we were just unlucky. *Update* I sent my review to the Groes Wen Inn via their feedback form and I received a prompt and thoughtful response, along with an apology. The toilet situation was also explained, and it sounds like a refit is imminent. If I find myself in the area again, I may give them another chance.

Great food, if that wasn't enough! Your faithful hound can accompany you with bowls for your four legged friend. They offer a reasonable smoking area with outside seating for the summer which is accompanied by a beautiful sunset. Staff are quite rude though, sorry that lost you a star 👎

Food here is already great and reasonably priced for what you get. The bar staff are always friendly and accommodating. Can be nicely quite on a weekday, but very busy on weekends with even the bar area booked out for food, so worth considering booking before just turning up. We don't have a dog, but it is dog friendly in the bar area and also fine for children. Children would need to be happy indoors as there is no play area. There is limited outside seating and, due to the proximity of the A48, is not suited to children who tend to wander! I've rated 5 stars - just. The only thing that lets the Groes Wen down is the outside seating area; but due tot he location there is nothing that could be done to fix.

Had lunch with my friend. We were both very unwell later that night for 48 hours , very unpleasant. Called the Inn to let them know. No apology or empathy.Told the onus was on us to prove we were unwell cos we had eaten there. Coincidence ?? We wont be going back.

Visited as a party of 2 for the first time for Sunday roast and was impressed, and will return; make sure you book at least the day before though as they were super busy! The pub is a part of the vintage inn chain however was the best one of that I've ever eaten at; the roast came out all on one plate, none of the dishing up your own veg stuff which I hate, and it was presented nicely. Tasted lush and was reasonably priced. The only downside was it took a little while to be seated and for the food to turn up, but it was a busy Sunday and the staff were super polite so no issues!
