  I booked a room here to coincide with a visit to friends nearby. I paid the full price of the room upfront by bank transfer. Only a few hours after booking, and two days before being due to stay there, my friends' young daughter fell ill. I rang to see if there was any chance of cancelling (as a precaution). The housekeeper said it was no problem at all and I would get a full refund transferred back to me when the owner got back from abroad. However when the owner returned she refused to pay a single penny back. I totally understand non-refundable payments/deposits. However, the fact that I was promised a refund and then later refused it is totally unacceptable. Had we known I was actually paying for the room I would have travelled there anyway. The owner was totally intransigent. The fact that she would carry out this ruse for the sake of grubbing an extra £75 would make me very hesitant to stay at a B&B she was running.
