  After a very pleasant evening with excellent food and friendly and helpful staff, we found that our taxi could not make it through the snow to take us to back Coalville. The staff were reassuring and tried hard to obtain an alternative taxi but unfortunately the weather had become much worse during the time taken to have our meal and it was impossible to find anyone. Very fortunately for us the manager, Alex, offered to take us in his 4 wheel drive vehicle. The journey was fairly uneventful thanks to his excellent and careful driving. It was a very kind and generous gesture which we all greatly appreciated. We hope Alex had a safe journey back. We would certainly recommend the Royal Oak, their staff and in particular, Alex, who certainly exceeded the call of duty in getting us all safely home. Ross, Alan, Kath and John

  Lovely stay in a beautiful area. We were a bit unsure about the stay due to some previous reviews but once we arrived we had a lovely, peaceful time! It was a very quiet time of the year and our room was clean, big and had the bath jacuzzi which was amazing! We had no noise problems from any other guests or from the pub attached. There was noise from what we think is a water boiler, which we could hear in room 5. This has been mentioned in previous reviews but we didn't find it affected our sleep or relaxation in the room. We would stay again just for the room and the breakfast was lovely too.

  Very nice clean hotel but shower was dripping all night and no thermostat to control room temperature. Apart from that very spacious rooms friendly staff and great breakfast. .

  Great location, clean modern rooms. Fabulous staff, helpful, pleasant, faultless. Breakfast was not, eggs cooked to order, good value for money. Only gripe which is small, room one must have a boiler just outside the building, during the night you could here the pump going through its cycle, also small green light over door was annoying. These points were brought to staff attention and are being addressed according to the lady we spoke to. Otherwise perfect stay. Highly recommended.
