::Things have changed here a little bit: shorter opening hours and seemingly more aggressive sales. The small gym floor is of course still small. I started using Aldersgate during weekdays though they also start shutting sooner - don't really get it in the age of 24/7 gyms. All this stretches the perceived value for money.

::Given that the Canary Riverside gym is actually a "Collection Club" gym this is probably the worst Virgin Active in their entire network of gyms due to value alone. There's one squat rack, no designated area for deadlifts/barbell rows etc., the free weights dumbbell section is so overcrowded its borderline negligent at peak times given that people are dropping heavy weights everywhere. There are only two cables you can use and the machines (albeit are fairly new) are far and few between. In summary, the gym floor is extremely overcrowded for any gym let alone a "premium" gym it markets itself as. When you look at the other Virgin Collection gyms like Aldersgate, Walbrook etc. its frankly laughable how poor this gym floor is. I can't say much for the classes and the swimming pool is OK but as per the reviews below gets dirty at times (most likely due to the cuts in cleaning staff which some of the staff told me about). For those who are local to the area and largely just use the weights section, pay the extra to go to Third Space for quadruple the free weights section or pay less and go to Pure which is 24 hr (Virgin have recently cut theirs so don't believe the times on the website) and is far bigger. It's genuinely laughable how they can charge GBP 129 a month for a 12 month contract. Thats £1,548 a year you'd be giving to just queue behind the squat rack or bench for 10 mins every time you want to use it.

::There isn’t much they can do about the small free weights area, but the dirtiness of the place is disgraceful (and other reviews have been saying this for years). Windows are filthy throughout the building and all the glass in the spa is revolting. The walls in the spa are dirty too. The big glass wall that separates the spa from the rest of the gym is disgusting. Totally ruins the feeling of relaxation. The main event is the pool overlooking the Thames, and that is gross too. The edges of the pool area are covered in cobwebs and dirt. It is astonishing. The glass has had a snail on for the past 6 months. I just don’t get it. With the TERRIBLE hours (shutting at 9 on a friday) and the amount we pay - not cleaning is simply a disgrace.

::It has been 3 months I am membership of Virgin active canary riverside. When I was attending I told them that my supervisor has referred me to this club and asked if they do something refer a friend complementary. I did not force the lady to do, I just asked if they have any complementary stuff when someone referring friend. The lady said of course they do have and asked me to provide my friends name and Virgin active brunch name by email. I have sent the details immediately, however I did not get any response. Afterwards I have sent another Email and did not get any response. When I went to gym I have asked for the lady who checked me in and a guy came (probably the manager) instead of her and said they are aware of the situation and probably the company will give one month complementary to who referred me, but they did not do any action of that. It has been three months and I am really disappointed of the customer service. Still sending emails and no one is caring about me. The woman who referred me she is my manager at work, and the problem is that she will think I did not even give her name to Virgin Active. This situation is really bad! I was always told that Virgin Active is the best place to choose for gym but being best is not enough, a company's customer service department makes a significant impact on the success of the business!

::I have been a member for ages and I really like this gym compared to Third Space which can be a little too big and less of a "Health Club". I do go to the gym to work out but sometimes will take my laptop and work from the lounge. Staff are loyal and friendly to clients. PT sessions are very expensive but you do not need it if you go to classes. The machines are very high tech and follow you on a program which is all tracked in an app. Keep up the customer services (New staff need to be trained) but I am happy. I really enjoy going to this gym!
