Was really looking forward to this afternoon tea experience but left very disappointed. The staff and ambience are nice.. but (a) tea/coffee and pastries/scones are not the best and (b) the afternoon tea is way too overpriced (at ÂŁ20) for what you get. Cant talk about other afternoon tea shops at York but I have had much better and cheaper ones at Cornwall and London (mostly smaller, non-commercialised places). That said, we tried the Rosti on the menu at Bettys and that was good and reasonably priced.

I love this little tea room! It's so much better than the bigger one up the road - not only is Stonegate an attraction in it's own right but this little tea room is amazing and full of character. I have visited here many times and it's one of the places I always go to when in York. The building is lovely, wonderful tapestries and lovely view of the street if near a window - brilliant on a cold or rainy day. The menu is great! so much to choose from and I've had most of it - coffee's are so full of flavour. Service is outstanding. There isn't one thing on that menu that I haven't enjoyed - It takes me ages to order when I'm there. I would highly recommend this place...it is expensive but it is definitely worth the money for the experience. It gets very busy .

Absolutely beautiful! Such a traditional tea room, a lovely experience could probably live on there hot chocolate alone! Totally stunning.

A world famous tea room and deservedly so. We had coffee and cake, the portions were generous and the service was excellent. The presentation and quality of the cutlery, cups, coffee cafeteria etc was first class. It would have 5 stars but let down by the toilet which is in need of an upgrade.
