A disappointment- there are better hotels in Bath. Having booked this hotel as a weekend get-away it was a disappointment. To start with the positives, the staff and service was superb, all very friendly and helpful. The views from the main house are outstanding. The food was fantastic (although there is a limited selection and no suitable dishes for children at dinner). The hotel itself is a let down. The "garden lodge" rooms are no better than a Travelodge. The rooms are located in a building to the side of the swimming pool in a very dated 1980's concrete prefab. The building looks tired and the hallways need updating. The rooms are small and with very limited amenities. This hotel prices itself at the higher end, but does not offer high end accommodation. The "spa" is the worst part of all. There a medium sized swimming pool; hydra pool (with metal chairs!), steam room, sauna and gym. The whole spa area is run down and very shoddy. The changing rooms are very poor indeed, with no heating, broken lockers, broken hairdryers, dirty floors and showers. The "spa" is not a place to relax and urgently needs updating. The rooms in the main house are more what you expect from a country house escape however are let down by their cleanliness. The bathroom was dirty and dusty with black mould in the corner of the shower. There was biscuit crumbs on the floor around the bed and tooth paste on the sleeve of one of the 'clean' robes. There is no attention to detail and housekeeping is quite poor. Lunch and diner are expensive with limited choice.

This hotel is perfect if you want to escape London (or any other big city!) for a few days and relax in the countryside. It’s quiet, beautiful, and very, very relaxing. Just a few things that may be useful: if you don’t have a car, note that you can’t really walk to Bath, it’s too far. Also you won’t be able to do grocery shopping easily unless you walk to the next village, which is doable but again, a bit far. Breakfast at the hotel is fantastic though (so much to eat you probably won’t need a lunch!) and diners at the restaurant are excellent too. You can walk to the Prior Park Landscape Garden (it’s a long walk but walking’s good right ;), definitely worth it. The gym is nice and well-equipped. I also highly recommend to book teatments in advance (although you may want to confirm them when you’re at the hotel as the guy I spoke to on the phone forgot to book one of my massages); the facial I had was one of the best I’ve ever had. Again, perfect if you want to spend a few days sleeping, relaxing, doing some sport and enjoying the pure air of the countryside! You’ll be radiant when you come back to work ;)

Just a week ago I was on Umina Beach in Aus. with 44 degree temps, now I'm here in Bath UK and its minus 4 degrees. I've stayed at "Cannons", "Combe Grove Manor" and now known as Combe Grove many times for business over the past 25 years and its my preferred hotel in the SW of England. Easy access to Wales, Southampton and Birmingham and back to London the same day. Great facilities, wonderful rooms, great service and the food is 5 stars.

Just what we wanted, a historic building but with a clean contemporary and stylish interior. External room with balcony a treat, loved the decor and layout. Breakfast menu superb choice, attentive staff. Would definitely book again. Please however trim your entrance hedges that currently partially obscure your sign; we missed it on 2 occasions approaching from the Bath side and over shot, not an easy road for a turn around .
