  Visited the scotch bar within the Balmoral hotel on 03/03/18. I like my whisky and found Cameron and Chuck extremely knowledgeable on all things whisky but more than that for my partner and myself they were great fun and gave as good as they took. My partner does not like whisky and I only intended to have maybe 2 before she wanted to move on but we had such a great time and my partner enjoyed the cocktails served that we stayed most of the evening. If you love whisky and want to know more about different types you might like depending on your tastes this is the place to go. There were plenty of "serious' people from other countries who were there to try all kinds and wanted to know all they could and the guys behind the bar were excellent. They were also brilliant with us who were just there for a drink and a bit of fun. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. We will be back shortly

  My partner and I visited just for a quick whiskey cocktail prior to catching our train home after a day trip in the area. Very luxurious interior, and well trained and attentive staff, with a wide range of cocktails available. Recommended as a place to visit, although this is not a budget option.

  I went to the Balmoral for a couple of drinks with my wife. The drinks were great although quite expensive. I think they were renovating the bar which meant drinks were served in another room which has really low ceilings so I had to be careful not to bang my head and the toilets were located 2 floors away. The Balmoral has good public transport links with buses going right past the door and it's located right next to the train station. Overall I enjoyed my time there but I don't think I'll be back

  As well as being an exceptional hotel with a warm & friendly team, the Balmoral enjoys a great position immediately adjacent to Waverley station in a well kept historic building. Upon arrival we were very generously upgraded to a larger suite and offered a reservation for dinner (afternoon tea was fully booked). The suite and bedrooms are well designed & appointed with a very peaceful atmosphere and we were looked after with impeccable service. Thanks & look forward to staying with you again.

  I remember this hotel when I was a kid and it was rather run down. It was called The North British Hotel back then and like most hotels in Scotland, if not all of them, it needed a lick of paint and some decent service. Going back 30 years later is quite a shock as it's so totally different: friendly service, great decor, elaborate food and drink and (the thing that I really like) an interesting art collection on the mezzanine floor. You can see some of the photos that were on show when I was there, as well as some views of the cafe spaces. I didn't stay the night so I can't write about the rooms. It's a great place to meet in Edinburgh as it sits right above the station (back in my day there was a lift right down to the platforms); and the airport bus comes in just round the corner. Glad to see it's been so well restored.
