  Room was small but very nice. Good view, clean in general and friendly staff. Breakfast in the morning was enjoyed by whole group. Dietry requirements were met by staff and it was a pleasant stay would definitely return.

  A lovely hotel, right next to the train station. We stayed here for a couple of nights, eating at the hotel for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is buffet style, with a nice variety of cereals, fruits, breads and hot items (veggie sausages available upon request). Dinner was equally as nice, with a menu that has Yorkshire produce running through it. The room was a nice spec although there didn’t seem to be a way of controlling the temperature which meant we had to crack a window. All staff were friendly but it lacked the attentive nature we were expecting. A few times we were left waiting around for service. Overall, a nice place to stay in York. If we came again, it be nice to see Yorkshire Tea in the rooms and not PG Tips!

  Excellent high-end hotel with well decorated and spacious rooms. Breakfast was delightful as was my meal in the bar. Stayed on business but would also return for pleasure as well. Well positioned for. The train station and short walk into the city.

  We stayed for our anniversary and the hotel did everything they could to make our stay extra special. The little extras in the rooms like the tuck box and fluffy robes definitely add to the hotel's character. The chapter house bar is great with an extensive menu and the breakfast in the refectory was also lovely. The bed itself was huge and very comfy. Would definitely recommend.

  I took my partner to stay at The Principal as I was going to propose to her and wanted to make the weekend special. I wasn't disappointed, the hotel building and interior is stunning, as are the gardens. The staff were incredibly helpful, proactive , friendly and made me feel at home. The atmosphere is very relaxed throughout. The rooms are amazing, spotlessly clean and comfortable, with a fridge for water and milk, as well as coffee making facilities. The rooms each have an iron, ironing board and a hairdryer. Most anything else you can think of is available at the reception. I didn't originally book to eat there in the evening, but after having breakfast there I was convinced to give it a go. The restaurant food is delicious and presented beautifully. The staff, again, are amazing, they just make sure that you are happy and satisfied with your experience. My first visit to The Principal, but will be my new go to accomodation in York. Just as a side note, if you a travelling by train, there's an entrance into the hotel from the station, very convenient
